Customer FAQ's
How effecient are solar panels?
Most solar panels produce between 250 and 400 watts of power. An average house takes 5,000 to 7,500 watts to run. Therefore, an average home will have 12-18 panels to power everything in the home.
How do you design them on my roof?
South and south-west facing slopes naturally provide the strongest sunlight. We look at a solar heat map to see where you get the most sun and design your panels accordingly. We also factor in your thoughts on design to make it aesthetically pleasing.
Do you damage or change the roof to put the panels up?
In most cases, we have to drill into the rafters of the roof to obtain the support for the panels on the roof. A 100% weatherproof seal of the system is always created after doing so to ensure a lasting roof. If you are concerned your roof is too old, in most cases you can get a new roof financed through the solar project.
What do panels cost?
This varies upon the types of panels you choose, state and federal tax benefits and rebates, your electrical service company, local jurisdictions and financing. All in all, we get the best quote for you factoring in all aspects of costs and benefits.
Can I add extra panels to sell energy back to the grid?
In some parts of the country, yes. We will research it for you and help you get the best deal.
What do panels come with? Are there things I can get beyond that?
They do not come with anything extra, but there are other things you can get to make solar work more for you. Things like batteries, generators and car plug ins are just a few things that you may want.
What about storms or other weather? Could it damage my panels?
It is highly unlikely that hail or other storm events damage your panels or roof, but if it does happen, you would make an insurance claim to get it fixed.
Will my homeowners insurance go up?
In most cases no, but if you are required to add it onto your insurance policy, it should only be $10-100 per year.
Will my HOA allow solar panels?
In some states, like Texas, it is now illegal for an HOA to block solar from being installed in homes. In most cases, an HOA will not get in the way of you gettin solar, but they may want approval.
Does solar work when the grid is out?
No. Most solar systems are designed to convert DC solar power to the AC power for the home through an inverter that is connected to the grid. It can work when the grid is out if you have a solar connected battery storage system or a generator, both are gaining popularity for this reason.
What if I decide to sell my house?
Solar adds value to the house and the new homeowners. Our documents for appraisal of your system and warranty give new homeowners peace of mind with the changing of hands.
What happens if I need to remodel or work on my roof?
We can help your system be uninstalled and reinstalled for you to be able to do major roof renovation and projects, if necessary. We'll organize them to be tested and in top shape once again.
